Level 5 General Machinist

J R Global Manufacturing, Inc. produces machined and fabricated metal components for customers representing transportation, equipment, communication, research and other commercial businesses.  The company uses computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines to produce these items.

Successful candidates for this position should have at least three years experience programming, operating and setting up CNC lathes and mills, and three years manual machining experience, or equivalent. Candidates are expected to have a mastery of geometry and own their own hand/precision tools needed to perform tasks related to the job. Mastery of at least one common 3d Cad or Cam system is required.

Responsibilities

This position is a part of a manufacturing process design team and will have direct input on the design of manufacturing processes and procedures. The team member will design and create machined components and assemblies used for work holding, inspection, and processing of mass produced machined products. The employee will use 3d Cad/Cam software, CNC and manual equipment to fabricate these items. The team member will create process documentation such as setup sheets, tool lists, and inspection drawings. The employee is expected to maintain quality and safety standards; keep records; maintain equipment and supplies, and perform other tasks as requested by management including, but not limited to setting up and operating production CNC equipment.

Duties
  • Plans machining by studying computer models, work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Sets up mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, and bushings; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Make minor and major edits to CNC programs at each machine to improve efficiency, tool life, or safety.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to operate networked computers and manipulate/edit CNC program code.
  • Mastery of, or ability to learn Cadkey, SurfCam, and SolidWorks for the purposes of modifying CNC program code and designing work holding tooling.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or other spreadsheet application.
  • Knowledge of cutting tool geometry and applications.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications, watching YouTube videos, reading blogs, etc.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Pay Range
